Local Walk: Hazelslade and Castle Ring (Cannock Chase)

This new fully off-road route variant tackles beautiful Cannock Chase from the south, along peaceful but well-managed paths and tracks in South Staffordshire.

Logistics
Meet: Check-in at 10:00, for a prompt start within 5-10 minutes or sooner if those visible are all ready.
Distance: Modest distance of 8 to 9 miles, due to reduced daylight.
Start: Hazelslade Nature Reserve Car Park, Cannock Wood Street, Hazelslade, Rawnsley, WS12 0QH or W3W=undivided.paddocks.deeply
Parking: As above (understood to be free on Sundays) or local roadsides such as Valley Road or Alder Way.
Terrain: Mainly the Forested woodlands of Cannock Chase passing a number of pools and the remains of the Castle Ring fort. Not especially strenuous at any time.

Refreshments: Coffee stop and Midway Picnic stop, and pub stop (Park Gate Inn) later on in the walk, and optional pub (Hazelslade Inn) to end.
Bring: Waterproofs & Refreshments & Good walking footwear, and clothing to match the weather.
Guests: Under 16s & dogs (behaved, under control) may attend as guests

Safety
As with any outdoor activity, there is some inherent risk. Whilst we aim to avoid unnecessary risks, participants should take all reasonable precautions themselves. A suitable pace for the walk will be determined by the walk leader, which others must observe by keeping in visible distance, not forging ahead or lagging behind. Those attending are totally responsible for their own safety. You must be comfortable walking the specified distance in order to attend please.
