GO: Hiking & Camping: Mortehoe, South West Coast

A revisit is planned to one of our most treasured summertime sunshine coastal walking venues. For a reminder of our last trip, please see event page from Aug/2022.

Long bank holiday weekend on the South West peninsula, comprising coastal walking, beach and swims, and pub socializing in the evening. There are awesome beaches and a village pub, so join us for another memorable summer weekend.

We're based around Mortehoe, affectionately called the kneecap of the North Devon coastline, situated 2 miles from the more commercial Woolacombe and 5 miles from Ilfracombe.

Your Campsite Options:
(1) North Morte Farm Campsite
Camping - North Morte Farm Camping and Caravans in Beautiful Coastal Countryside - North Devon
(2) Twitchen House Holiday Village
Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks | Twitchen House in the Woods
(3) Easewell Farm Holiday Park
Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks | Easewell Farm a Rural Escape
(4) Damage Barton Camping
[Camping & Caravanning Club Site in North Devon (damagebarton.co.uk)](https://www.damagebarton.co.uk/)

Campsite Recommendation:
These campsites are near each other, and there are plenty of others within a local radius. The campsite used previously and which Paul & Maria intend to book is North Morte Farm (see link listed above).

When booking you will pay a deposit, and will book individually, not as part of a big group, as we have not asked for group status. Their normal max party size is 6.

This site is peaceful with 5 camping fields, and at £12 pppn is better value than most. We're also very near to two good pub (Ship Aground & Chichester Inn) and the Smugglers Rest Inn (B&B).

Alternatives:
We would prefer if everyone were co-located in Mortehoe. But if unable to camp, you're welcome to try local hotels, on the basis of joining us for walks and socializing each evening in Mortehoe. Woolacombe is much nearer than Ilfracombe.

Walking Options:
There are miles of coastline to explore on foot, and we will do just that on some days we're here. Walking should be fairly chilled, no marathon challenges! There may be pub stops available, but take your own supplies each day (water, sandwich, loo roll at least), and pack stuff for the beach. We will add links to walk routes if we need you to book individually so we can assess numbers.

Please RSVP for walks you expect to attend well in advance, so that we have a good idea of numbers for each.

We will also incorporate some general down time for people to enjoy the beaches and seaside, and perhaps other attractions nearby.

Walks & Socials Itinerary:
Routes may be revised to suit the weather but most walks will begin from North Morte Campsite at 10am sharp, so you will need to be there on time please, noting limited phone signal, and that Mortehoe village has a car park for anyone driving on the day. A beach and swim should be possible each day.
Walks marked (*) will be self-lead unless a volunteer emerges, or may not happen if people are happy with the main walk on offer.

Campsite Payments & Booking:
You will pay directly to the campsite owners, and are encouraged to do so as soon as the event location is firmly announced. If you prefer to find somewhere else to stay in the village, then go ahead, although you may faint at the prices.

Travel:
We propose staying between Thursday or Friday & Tuesday to make a long b/h weekend of it, though feel free to arrive Saturday if you can't get time off on Thu/Fri. With full camping equipment, car sharing may be limited to 3. We will get together as a group on arrival with tents up, though no problem if you want to organize something earlier.

Some Essentials To Bring:
Personal toilet roll supply, shower-gel/soap, shower towel... beach towel, swim costume, beach-games... walking boots, day-sack, camping chair... both sun-cream and waterproofs. And of course, Tent, airbed, sleeping bag. And if you are cooking, kettle, pans, stove, plastic plates, cups, utensils, bin-liner, wash-up liquid, dish-sponge. We also advise fully charging your phone before setting out, as limited options for recharging.

Be Cool, Be There!
All members welcome, new members too, anyone enjoying being at one with nature, or realistic about camping being as comfortable as you want to make it.
