Let’s try to understand what has changed with generics in Go. We now have generic methods, improvements to struct literals, and function type inference is applied in all assignment contexts.

The newest release is not only about generics. I will go over the most interesting stdlib changes, challenge claimed performance gains with benchmarks, and show you some updates to the toolchain.

In this talk, we'll explore the principle of locality through concrete examples, from data layout and access patterns to feature boundaries and communication between components. We'll see how structural decisions at each level shape the systems we build—and how those effects compound as applications grow.

As AI makes generating code increasingly cheap, being intentional about data structures, boundaries, and architecture becomes even more important: we may delegate implementation, but we still need to control the properties of the systems we create.
