What we’re about
Thank you for your interest in Golden Gate Flyers. We are an active LGBT organization, with monthly dinner meetings, fly-in’s and everything general and commercial aviation related.
Our LGBT members have a broad range of experience from the GA (general aviator), student pilot, airline pilot, flight attendants, air traffic control or pure admirers. We all share a common interest in developing future pilots and in fostering the growth and vitality of the aviation community.
We schedule a number of fly-in events every year to interesting destinations, typically an hour or three away from the Bay Area in a typical GA airplane.
Past destination include: Palm Springs, Santa Barbra, San Diego, Santa Maria, Mexico, Lake Tahoe, Mariposa.
We have members ranging from student pilots to retired airline captains, and welcome anyone over age 18 with an interest in aviation. Many of our members are also members of NGPA (National Gay Pilots Association).
Aviation is expensive, but many member have their own planes and either share expenses or offer spare seats free!
We have monthly dinner meetings on the second Wednesday of each month, and the venue alternates between The Sausage Factory and Hamburger Mary’s. Both restaurants are in the San Francisco Castro neighborhood, and street parking is usually available. Also, both are convenient to Muni if you're taking public transportation.
We usually meet around 7:00 pm in the back room bar for cocktails, then sit down for dinner around 7:30. There is a choice of entrees. Membership dues are $35 per year, and the dues are used primarily to pay for a holiday party in December and our annual hangar party/barbeque at the Oakland airport in the fall.
