Brushy Peak, 11 miles, 2100 elev.gain
Details
We meet at Brushy Peak Regional Preserve (Laughlin ranch staging area). I never hiked there because it is small reserve with long drive. But after rechecking trails i realized that it is worth to hike there.
Weather is unpredictable on Sunday and strong rain in the morning will cancel this hike. But afternoon rain will work for us because there are multiple cutover trails there, so we can reach our for lees than 1 hour from any route point.
We'll visit Frick ( freak?) Lake that has water only after rains . We'll walk around old Islamic cemetery and I anticipate early spring flowers in many places.
Our route: West Side Loop tr -> Brushy Peak Loop tr ( we'll try to reach main peak as well although it is open only to special public) -> Tamcan tr ( lunch at trailhead) -> Laughlin Loop tr -> Dyer Ranch tr -> Laughlin rd to check Frick lake -> returning Dyer Ranch tr -> Laughlin Loop tr back to cars
Our pace: 2.5 -2.8 per mile. Hike's length and elevation gain is based on AllTrails route estimate. Real one can be longer 1-2 miles .
It is good to have >2.0L water, sturdy hiking shoes , layers clothes ,rain gear, and lunch food.
It is not good idea to join the hike if you don't plan to complete full route.
