D&D 2024 One-shot - What Lies Beneath: A Wedding and a Funeral

I am a roleplay focused DM interested to try out a new home-brew world and the new 2024 Rules. If you’re interested foremost in creating an engaging story through acting and character building while trying out some new gameplay, this game might be for you. This adventure is in the format of a Lvl 5 one-shot.

The party is a group of former adventuring colleagues and all or some of you are members of a prominent adventuring family (The Galilamas) that are gathering after a long separation to make the trip down to the Twilight lands where a young member of the Galilama family is set to wed next week. The trip is not without peril, but you are a group of seasoned adventurers and a little danger has never stopped any of you, especially when long-separated family and friends, joyous festivities, music, dancing, and free booze await. You have all adventured together many years ago and some of you may be related by blood or marriage as members of the Galilama family; you decide what drove you to adventure, why you broke from the group, what you’ve been doing in the intervening years, and what your main reason is for deciding to attend the reunion and head down to the wedding. Flex your imagination and let’s bring some interesting dynamics to the game here and let’s see what happens along the way.

No worries if you are new to Dnd, just message me and I can help you create your character or provide a pre-configured character to fit your needs. Otherwise, use 2024 PHB rules to create a level 5 character, standard 27 Point Buy or Standard Array (reach out to me on Meetup for access to this book through Dnd Beyond if you need it). If you want to incorporate content from any other official sources, that’s probably fine just run it by me before the game by messaging me. You can use the optional rules in the 2024 PHB to customize character backgrounds to suit your character concept. You are starting at level 5 and are moderately seasoned adventurers so you have whatever mundane gear you think your character might have (no magic items). I can help anyone who needs it or give suggestions otherwise just create something you feel makes sense and I'll give all the character sheets a quick once over for reasonablness. Before we dive into the game we will talk a little about the kind of game we want to have and briefly discuss parts of your characters’ backstories and relationships that are common knowledge amongst the party members and off we go.

I play with moderate amounts of rolling, preferring to keep the pace of the game and interactions moving instead of getting bogged down with a lot of rolls, but fear not, the dice will roll and exert their influence at pivotal times when chance comes into play. This game will likely be a mix of travel, exploration, social interaction, and combat, but role-play and immersion will be emphasized throughout all phases.
