A Kansas City staple will be back at Union Station for its 20th year celebrating America’s veterans and ringing in the summer with music, festivities and more.
Bank of America Celebration at the Station is a family-friendly event that takes place every year on Memorial Day. It is hosted by Kansas City PBS and features the Kansas City Symphony, guest artists, vendors and a fireworks display to end the evening.
2024 marks both the 20th anniversary of the event and the 19th and final year for the Kansas City Symphony’s music director and conductor, Michael Stern. Stern first announced he would be stepping down from his role after the 2022/2023 season in 2019, but has stayed for one additional season.
Celebration at the Station 2024 is on Memorial Day, Sunday, May 26.
Pre-concert entertainment starts at 5 p.m. with over 20 food trucks and vendors available to buy food, drinks and more.At 8 p.m., the concert begins with the Kansas City Symphony performing pieces that include the “Armed Forces Salute” and the “1812 Overture,” along with accompaniment for the end-of-show live cannons and fireworks display.
It takes place on the North Lawn of the National WWI Museum and Memorial and the South Plaza of Union Station. Families are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and food.
