Hike 100 Challenge: Muncie Lake Pathway Trailhead to Broomhead Road

Details
Join the NCTA Grand Traverse Chapter of the North Country Trail Association on a 7-mile hike that includes some of the Muncie Lakes Pathway, passes by Dollar Lake, and follows along the North Branch of the Boardman River.
We’ll meet at the Muncie Lakes Pathway Trailhead on Ranch Rudolf Rd at 10 am. All cars will be moved to the hike’s end where the North Country Trail crosses Broomhead Rd (see map). Then a minimum number of cars will take drivers back to Muncie Lake Trailhead to start the hike. At the end of the hike, some will need to be driven back to their cars at Muncie Lakes. We should start hiking shortly after 10:30.
The first 3 miles will be on the Muncie Lakes Pathway following map posts # 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, and 8 through rolling mixed woods. Half a mile after the #8 post, the NCT turns left, drops into a valley, up and over to Dollar Lake. Past the lake the trail goes north, then makes a sharp right turn to the Dollar Lake Trailhead. A mile after crossing Supply Rd and Williamsburg Rd, the trail follows the North Branch of the Boardman River to Broomhead Rd (and most of the cars). Some hikers will need to be returned to their cars at Muncie Lakes.
Plan on hiking for 3.5 hours at a 2 mph pace, with a short snack break. Hiking shoes, hiking poles, and rain gear are recommended .
This route uses Avenza maps NCT MI-116 and MI-115.
