Our February meeting will be Tuesday, March 24, 7:00 pm at the Boardman River Nature Center. Paul Wilkins will give a presentation on GPS, Latitude-Longitude, and Satellites:
"Everything happens for a reason… and that reason is usually physics.
Let’s review Newton’s Laws of Motion, centripetal force, and the Law of Universal Gravitation — and see how gravity itself provides the centripetal force that keeps satellites in orbit. From there, we’ll connect these principles to explain the three main classifications of Earth orbit and explore how GPS satellites use predictable orbital paths and precise timing signals to pinpoint positions on Earth using latitude and longitude coordinates."
