NCTA Grand Traverse Chapter - April Monthly Meeting
Details
Our April meeting will be Tuesday, April 21, 7:00 pm at the Boardman River Nature Center.
The Alaska Marine Highway was established in 1963 to connect isolated coastal communities in the 49th State. In a presentation for Grand Traverse Chapter of the NCTA, Jim DuFresne will ride the famous “blue canoes” from one great Alaskan wilderness adventure to another. Why book an expensive cruise on a boat that carries 3,000 other passengers? DuFresne will focus on Alaska’s wonderful ferry system, taking us from Ketchikan in Southeast Alaska to Dutch Harbor in the Aleutian Islands, stopping at towns along the way to enjoy glacier walks, kayaking adventures and wilderness cabins reached by the historic White Pass & Yukon Railroad.
A former resident of Alaska, DuFresne is the author of 20 guidebooks including Lonely Planet’s Alaska, Hiking in Alaska and Tramping in New Zealand as well as Isle Royale National Park: Foot Trails & Water Routes and Backpacking in Michigan. DuFresne is also the main contributor to [www.MichiganTrailMaps.com](https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.MichiganTrailMaps.com%2F%3Ffbclid%3DIwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAYnJpZBExRHBzSWlXMURhbWRjS3VMNXNydGMGYXBwX2lkDzUxNDc3MTU2OTIyODA2MQABHrKQxD54s4ri9hRc1Da-DDiucJly-5o-R7ytlvUP8Ov1HGviNAEjhW8EP9cd_aem_AbigodTQPANQn8YS0CojcA&h=AT6Bc0ABI4_tJ1KYzXHBfCc2G3WMlq2vu5xWxaN4KyWwV68u9J13WBc88_V_M3vH-G2pUNt_rDNHUY_Jp9umrQ-9PsBmXdm-I-w401eU_rj-80bpfPgi7Zw4mrX4i3JS8u8).
