What we’re about
It's only been in the last 20 years that I started regularly reading this genre. I know there had to be plenty of people in the Tacoma area wanting to share this passion with a group of like-minded readers. I did not see evidence of a book club Meetup devoted to Sci-Fi and Fantasy when I started looking. So, here we are. If you're passionate about reading and discussing sci-fi AND fantasy books, film and television this is the place for you! Once a month we'll meet to discuss the current book selection, as well as select the book and the date for the next month's reading. Along the way we take some time to talk about film and tv shows. Everyone gets a chance to offer up their favorites to the group. It's a great way to get recommendations from fellow enthusiasts and experience the myriad imagineerings from many different perspectives.
We're a relaxed bunch and we want to encourage you to come. Remember, something like 90% of life is just showing up. So come if you're read the book, come if you've not read the book, come if you hate the book, just come along and join us!

See all- June 27, 2025: OLD MAN'S WAR by John ScalziLink visible for attendees
Join us on Zoom to discuss OLD MAN'S WAR by John Scalzi. From Goodreads:
"John Perry did two things on his 75th birthday. First he visited his wife's grave. Then he joined the army.
"The good news is that humanity finally made it into interstellar space. The bad news is that planets fit to live on are scarce-- and alien races willing to fight us for them are common. So: we fight. To defend Earth, and to stake our own claim to planetary real estate. Far from Earth, the war has been going on for decades: brutal, bloody, unyielding.
"Earth itself is a backwater. The bulk of humanity's resources are in the hands of the Colonial Defense Force. Everybody knows that when you reach retirement age, you can join the CDF. They don't want young people; they want people who carry the knowledge and skills of decades of living. You'll be taken off Earth and never allowed to return. You'll serve two years at the front. And if you survive, you'll be given a generous homestead stake of your own, on one of our hard-won colony planets.
"John Perry is taking that deal. He has only the vaguest idea what to expect. Because the actual fight, light-years from home, is far, far harder than he can imagine--and what he will become is far stranger."
RSVPs for this event will close at the end of the day on June 26, so please RSVP early and add the Zoom link to your calendar!
After book discussion, we'll choose a date and title for our next meetup, then round-robin for "What are you reading/what are you watching." See you, space cowboys!
