Day trip to Beaver Creek State Park Ohio and Optional Tomlinson State Park WV
Beaver Creek State Park is a 2,722-acre public recreation area in Columbiana County, Ohio, United States. The park follows the Little Beaver Creek in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Remnants of the historic Sandy and Beaver Canal, such as Gaston's Mill, can be found throughout the park.
Exploring another Ohio State park this weekend.
The trail will start at Lock 36 parking area. The loop hike will be a mixture of hiking trails including the North Coast Trail, horse trails and a few small sections of park roads to make 7.5-8 mile hike, with 1100 ft of elevation gain. I've tried to include most of the highlights of the park to included Sand stone Outcroppings, multiple canal locks along beaver creek and the Beaver Creek Wildlife Education center.
If you follow me on alltrails here is the new trail I threw together since we can't cross the creek tomorrow.
Lunch on the trail, I'm sure we will find a beautiful spot along the river to take a break.
I'm expecting the hike to take about 4 hours. Based on what the Ranger told me today we will have to drive to the Wilderness Center since we cannot cross Beaver Creek. Around 4-5 hours spent here.
The Start point is the parking lot area at Lock 36. The map with the red pin will take you exactly to this spot. This area has bathrooms so plan on getting there early and be ready to hike at 9 am.
Approximately 2pm End time.
As always, this is a rough plan and will be adjusted as needed based on how things go. I've never been here and there could be more history and interesting sites that could take longer then expected.
If anyone else is interested. I plan on then driving to Tomlinson Run State Park West Virginia. 25 min Drive.
