Clouds and Birds by Aristophanes @ MLK Jr. Memorial Library

Details

Who's in the mood for some comedy? Greek comedy, that is! Join us in September to discuss two works of Athenian "old" comedy, written by the legendary Aristophanes. We'll be skipping our regular August meeting this year and be reading two texts to make up for it: Clouds and Birds.

Clouds is a satire of Athenian intellectualism, with a particularly sharp parody of Socrates (which may have contributed to his death sentence!). Birds, on the other hand, is about birds. I will be reading from the recent translation by Aaron Poochigian, available here, but use whichever edition you prefer.

As usual, we will meet in the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library in the 205-B Accessibility Room, located on the second floor at the back of the Center for Accessibility. The library should be available to those of you coming on the red/yellow/green lines via Gallery Place and those on the blue/silver/orange lines via Federal Triangle. See you there!
