What we’re about
Green Software Development Munich is a community founded to support the implementation of the guiding principles of the Green Software Development Manifesto in practice.
Guided by the vision that the software industry is climate-neutral and actively promotes ecological transformation, our open community collaborates to develop strategies and practices that support this transformation, leveraging our expertise and fostering transparent communication about ecological impacts. Our community's goal is to unite individuals passionate about green IT and eco-friendly coding practices. Join us to connect with like-minded individuals who are dedicated to creating sustainable software solutions and driving positive environmental change!
Since Oktober 2024, we have been part of the Green Software Foundation, allowing us to benefit from even greater expertise and knowledge. As part of the Green Software Foundation's meetup network, we can now offer you two meetup formats:
- Hybrid events with an onsite venue in Munich, organized by us.
- Remote-only events centrally created by the Green Software Foundation
This Meetup is hosted by QAware & MaibornWolff & Reply

See all- The Blue Angel eco-label for Software Products: Latest Developments & InitativesMaibornWolff GmbH Theresienhöhe, München
Software and hardware are interdependent, much like a book and its pages, with software dictating the energy consumption of hardware. While hardware uses energy, software determines how much is consumed, impacting the efficiency and longevity of devices from computers to smartphones.
The European Ecodesign Directive sets minimum environmental standards for energy-related products, many of which are managed by software, yet it lacks regulations for software energy efficiency despite its significant effect on energy use.
The environmental label for resource and energy-efficient software aims to lower the energy use of information and communication technology and enhance resource efficiency. Software awarded the Blue Angel ensures efficient use of hardware resources, prolonging hardware lifespan and offering users transparency and flexibility. These criteria also help software developers identify and address environmental impacts of their products.
