About us

If you love -- or like to sample -- wine in a sociable way, you've found a wonderful group! You do not need to be a wine connoisseur or wine expert to join this meetup. All types of wine drinkers are welcome, from wine "beginners" to wine "veterans." All you need is an enjoyment for drinking wine and an interest in tasting a variety of wines in a fun, sociable setting.

This group tends to meet either at a Greenville-based happy hour bar or restaurant on a weekly basis. Some of our best gatherings happen when one of our members hosts a gathering at their home. These "home-based" events tend to feature "middle-range" price/quality for wines. Sort of a "Goldilocks" kind of thing in which the wine is not too expensive or not too cheap. Often, the host (who is the one who decides what the wine/food "theme" of the event will be) will ask that attendees bring a wine that has a rating of at least, say, 85 points by major wine rating services (the rating is found on the label in many cases). Or the request might be to "Bring your favorite wine." These kinds of requests tend to discourage people from bringing undrinkable, embarrassing, low-quality wine. I'd say that a good and typical price range for a bottle of wine at home-based events would be between $8 and $20, but I don't believe anyone would object if an attendee brought a wine that cost more than $20.

Speaking of which, we strongly encourage members to host an event at their home or at a "community center" or "clubhouse." There are many benefits to hosting. Being a host is very easy and rewarding.

When you choose to host, you only need to send Dom Nozzi – the owner of this meetup -- a note (either a message directed to Dom through the wine social meetup webpage, or through a regular email – dom[AT]walkablestreets.com) with some basic information about your event (Dom will provide you with a checklist of needed info).
That is all there is to it! Hosting a wine event is easier than you think.

I pay $200 per year to own and manage this meetup. While annual membership dues are not required, donations are appreciated.

Civility Guidelines:

The objectives of this meetup are to learn about wines in a polite, social, respectful, and comfortable manner.
1. This is not a “singles” meetup, or a “hookup” meetup, or a “dating” meetup. There are meetups and on-line dating services suitable for that. I do, however, encourage making new friends or strengthening existing friendships. Please contact me (Dom) if you have an unpleasant interaction with a member at a meetup. Should I receive more than one complaint about a member, that member – at my discretion -- will be promptly removed as a member.
2. Please drink responsibly rather than to the point of becoming obnoxious, or dangerous to yourself or others. When attending a meetup at the home of a host, please respect the home.
3. If you sign up for a meetup event, please attend that event. If you are unable to attend after signing up, please be courteous by canceling your RSVP far enough in advance (at least a day or two if possible) so that those on the waitlist are able to attend. Our hosts work hard to set up an event for a certain number of attendees.  If you sign up for an event and don’t attend without adequate notice, it is disrespectful to the host. And if you cancel less than 24 hours before the event, it is unfair not only to the host but also those on the waitlist.
4. If a host requests attendees bring a bottle of wine, an appetizer, or both, please respect this request by bringing along something to share – preferably something delicious!
5. Do not reserve spots at our limited-attendance meetups "just in case" you decide to go. Far too often, folks sign up for an event with very little intention of attending. Such people do so "just in case" other plans fall through, or "just in case they feel up to it." The result is that a very high percentage of RSVPs do not attend. Please do not sign up for an event unless it is highly likely you will attend.
6. It is NOT appropriate to use this meetup to sell products or services. Anyone who does this is subject to immediate removal from the meetup group.
