What we’re about
Rebirth of the Grenoble Cultural Exchange group! This reincarnation of the group will have a new theme: We will meet on the weekends (Dimanche pour la pluspart) and tour all of the Grenoble museum circuit.
Open to persons of all ages, genders, races, creeds, ethnicity, and nationality: A place for English speaking expats to build their language skills and exchange culture and enjoy the beautiful spaces around grenoble.
There are over a dozen museums in walking distance from Grenoble Hyper Center, and most are free!
Each week we'll pick a new museum, meet at a nearby pub or cafe for a beer and/or coffee, then head to the museum. When we run out of museums, we'll start tour other historic landmarks (Libraries, Universities, Cemeteries, Memorials, etc.) and we can also visit neighboring cities within 3 hours train.
Grenoble is a highly diverse city, a melting-pot of cultures -- perhaps it's greatest asset. This MeetUp is a week opportunity to exchange and share cultures, including language, music, food, and the arts. Come with an open mind, and come thirsty! If all goes well, hopefully you meet interesting people, and go away with more questions than answers!

New to Grenoble? Trying to learn about the local history & culture? Looking to beat the heat in Grenoble?
This is the place to learn (and cool down!)
Located in a former convent of Sainte-Marie d’en-Haut (dating back to 1600s), this museum features temporary/seasonal, as well as permanent exhibits regarding the region:
- Basement: Chapel of Sainte-Marie d’en-Bas
- Ground Floor, Cloister & 1st & 2nd floors: Seasonal Exhibits
- 3rd Floor: Prehistoric nomadic tribes, or Gens de l'alpe ("Alpine People"), for example, the region of Queyras, that settled in this region and thrived in spite of the challenges of the geography
- 4th Floor: Permanent: The ski industry and the 1968 Winter Olympics held in Grenoble.
Weather permitting, hopefully we can enjoy some of the outdoor garden space as well; feel free to bring light fare for a team-time picnic.

Bassari Country exhibition consisting of a photo of a Djallonké mask
December 7 , 2024 => September 8, 2025
Committed to promoting encounters between the cultures of the world, the Musée dauphinois is turning towards the Bassari Country; a territory located in the south-east of Senegal and the north of Guinea and whose environmental and cultural wealth has earned it a place on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2012.
Behind the term "Bassari" are several cultural minorities whose population is estimated at around thirty thousand people: Bassari, Bedik, Coniagui, Malinké and Djallonké. Drawing on an exceptional collection of objects and contemporary works, and served by a true scenographic gesture, the exhibition relates the history, cultural practices and contemporary issues of a territory in touch with the developments of its time.== Plan ==

EGYPTOMANIA
THE JEAN-MARCEL HUMBERT COLLECTION
Nov 5 , 2022 --> Until ---> NOV 27, 2023
"Egyptomania refers to the phenomenon of fascination with ancient Egypt and more specifically all forms of creation inspired by the culture of the Pharaohs of the Nile. These Western reinterpretations have been expressed for more than two centuries in the fields of spirituality, decorative arts, literature, entertainment, cinema, architecture, etc. Often very far from ancient culture, they respond to the pleasure from fear, in search of the irrational and mystery, to the construction of a representation of a fantasy Orient."== Additional Links to the Museum ==

- [Tentative] Musée des troupes de Montagne (La Bastile)Fontaine au Lion, Grenoble
=== About / Background ===
"The mountain troops museum is a military museum located since 2009 in the Bastille fort in Grenoble . It pays homage to the alpine hunters nicknamed 'The blue Devils' since the First World War.
Thanks to a multilingual audio guide, it presents over 600 m^2 of history of Soldiers [and Regiments from this region] specializing in mountain combat, the origins of which date back to 1888. Weapons, uniforms, transmission equipment, maps and testimonies retrace the highlights of these events."
From 1888 to Afghanistan, Soldiers and Regiments from this region have been using their specialty skills of combat in a mountainous terrain.
With the recent events of NATO extricating itself from Afghanistan after 20 years, it is an appropriate time to re-visit this museum and pay homage.
=== About Current Temporary Exhibit ===
