🗣️ 20:00 - Talk: "Legacy Codebases That Live On: Maintenance And Development" by Daniëlle Suurlant
💻 Legacy codebases are often viewed negatively; typically as monoliths with insurmountable tech debt, something to be discarded and replaced with the latest, shiniest technology. 🛠️ Perhaps even remade in a completely different language or software stack. However, there's great value in code that has stood the test of time, and replacement isn't always necessary or feasible. In this talk, I'll explore the concept of "legacy" code and how we might view it differently, perhaps as "long-lived" code instead. 💡 I'll also discuss how to maintain your long-lived codebase, and how to develop bugfixes 🐛 and new features ✨ for your enduring application. By the end of the session, I hope developers will gain a new appreciation for legacy codebases and learn how to tackle their challenges without discarding the years of accumulated domain knowledge embedded in their application’s source code.
🍻 On the End -?????: Share your ideas 💡 for future presentations, events 🎉 and activities, also, socialise, drink beer 🍺 and have fun! 😄Speaker:
