Oil Painting Workshop (Outdoors)

Details
Painting "alla prima" means "at first attempt" in Italian. Everything is being painted ‘all at once’ in the same session and is perfect for outdoor artists.
Traditionally oil-based painting requires days or weeks because of the drying process. A new layer of paint is applied only after allowing a previous layer to dry completely.
This oil painting technique was used first by Flemish painters in the 1500s. Since then other artists like Rembrandt, Caravaggio, Hieronymus Bosch or Velázquez.
Later the Impressionist movement in the 1800s made extensive use of this technique with painters like Van Gogh, Monet, Renoir, Degas, Cézanne or Sorolla.
