The Green Software Foundation is a non-profit with the mission to create a trusted ecosystem of people, standards, tooling and best practices for green software. The Green Software Foundation aims to change the culture of building software across the tech industry, so sustainability becomes a core priority to software teams, just as important as performance, security, cost and accessibility. The Foundation's mission is to reduce the total change in global carbon emissions associated with software. Ensuring that all of our members and contributors feel that they can actively contribute will ensure that we create an environment that promotes belonging and will lead to better outcomes.

Do you want to be a part of the green software movement?
If you want to make your software applications more sustainable and build a career in green software, then this training is for you.
It will teach you how to build, maintain, and run greener applications regardless of the application domain, industry, organization size or type, programming language, or framework.
During this meetup, we review and discuss the Green Software Practitioner training material from the Green Software Foundation.
We will then take the certification in the next meetup (on Tuesday December 1st) but if you can't make the next meetup, then you can take the certification in your own time, with support on a Climate Action Tech slack channel)
There is quite a lot to remember, so please bring a laptop to take notes if you can.
The training is relevant for anyone who is involved in the practice of building, deploying, or managing a software application. This includes but is not limited to Developers, Dev Ops, Testers, Architects, SREs, Product Managers and UX Designers.
By the end of this training, you will understand the following:
- The core drivers of carbon emissions for software applications.
- The 3 actions you can take to reduce the carbon emissions of your software.
- How to measure software emissions using the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) protocol or the Software Carbon Intensity (SCI) specification.
- The different types of corporate climate targets so you can align your green software proposals to help meet your organization's public commitments.🕚 The timings:
- 6:30 pm - 7:00 pm: Drinks & food
- 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm: Review and discuss the Green Software Practitioner training
- 8:30 pm - 9 pm: Networking

Ideally you will have already attended the previous meetup (on Tuesday November 17th) to do the training, but no worries if not, you can review the training material in your own time, with support on a Climate Action Tech slack channel, and then come along to take the certification in a friendly and supportive environment.
The certification is online, so you will need to bring a laptop.
