What we're about

We started this group to share our love of speaking German with people in the Greater Toronto Area of all levels of skill in pleasant and relaxed settings. Although this group was started on Meetup in November 2012, the Stammtisch and Brunch events have been taking place monthly for many years.

We have six regular, monthly events:

• the Mississauga Pub Night on the second Monday of the month, which began in April 2013;

• the German Parents and Children Group - Deutsche Eltern- und Kindergruppe on the second Friday of the month, which began in September 2014;

• the Deutscher Stammtisch on the third Wednesday of the month, which began in October 2005;

• the Saturday Brunch the third Saturday of the month, which began in 2007;

• the Oakville Pub Night event on the fourth Monday of the month, which began in March 2014;

• the German Conversations event for people learning German on the fourth Wednesday of the month, which began in November 2012;

• the Brampton Pub Night event on the fourth Wednesday of the month, which began in November 2017.

• We schedule other cultural and culinary events from time to time.

Two of us, Robert and Stephan W, have been organizers of social events for German speakers, and for other interests, with other groups on Meetup for many years. We have since welcomed Anne, Ethan, Martin, Mustafa and Stephan S to the team.

German Conversations Toronto - ON-LINE

Online event

German Conversations Toronto Regular event information This monthly event is for those of you who are not native speakers of German and would like to improve your conversational fluency. Please bring something along that you might like to discuss, and use the comments section on this events page or email to let me know what grammar, vocabulary or any other questions you might have and would like to have addressed. We take notes on questions asked and suggestions made and post them on-line after the event. Previous notes are available here (http://bit.ly/2V4HFTC). ====Thank you to our sponsor – Wir danken unserem Sponsor==== Our group could not exist without our sponsor, Steffen Hugo. Professional Real Estate Services for Houses, Condos, Investments, Rentals. More at https://www.steffenhugo.com/. Ohne unseren Sponsor, Steffen Hugo, ginge diese Meetupgruppe nicht. Profesionelle Immobiliendienstleistungen für Häuser, Wohnungen,Investitionsobjekte, Vermietungen. Weitere Infos bei https://www.steffenhugo.com/uber-mich/. ======== A reminder: we are not a substitute for proper, formal instruction in German. We expect all attendees to attend or to have attended such instruction at a qualified educational institution like the Goethe Institute (http://www.goethe.de/toronto), the University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies (http://learn.utoronto.ca/), or the German Saturday Schools of Toronto (http://torontogermanschools.ca/). Please contact us if you would like more information on these options. --AUGUST EVENT ON-LINE-- Please note: This event is intended for participants from the Greater Toronto Area only. If you are not from the GTA, do not register for this event. You will be reported to Meetup. Our event is usually hosted in person at the Madison Avenue Pub. However, because of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, all Meetup and Duolingo events must be held on-line. We will be using Zoom for video-conferencing; if you plan to participate from a mobile device or tablet, please download the Zoom app from your app store beforehand. The event will also be shortened to one hour, from 7 to 8 PM (as against the usual two hours from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM), as on-line meetings take a lot more energy on the part of hosts and participants. Since we only have an hour, be punctual: you take away from all participants by being late. Our theme this month is THINGS TO DO IN THE SUMMER, so please come prepared to talk about one (or more!) of: your favourite or least favourite thing to do, German or Canadian or whatever. And if your favourite activity is reading/literature, you can talk about your favourite or least favourite book and/or author. Please make sure to register no later than 6:59 PM on Tuesday, August 25, 2020. Cancelling after this time will be considered a no-show (see penalty later in this paragraph). Participation will be limited to 14 (plus me) from Meetup, and preference will be given to those who have regularly and/or recently attended events on-line or in person. In addition, participants must be resident in the Greater Toronto Area. Any no shows will be penalized by a six-month exclusion from future on-line or (god-willing) in-person events. I look forward to seeing everyone on-line! Regards, Robert Quickert Organizer – Greater Toronto German Club
