German Conversations Toronto - April 2013 Event

April, and it's verb month!

Please choose one favourite verb and come prepared to share with the rest of the grous: why you like the verb; the regular present tense forms (eg, for "sein": ich bin, du bist, er/sie/es ist, etc.); the past participle (eg, for "sein": gewesen); and maybe one or two sentences where the verb is used. We'll post links to these verb favourites in the event notes after the event.

Regular event information

This event is for those of you who are not native speakers of German and would like to improve your conversational fluency. Many thanks to those of you who came to the March event at the beerhall tables.

Please bring something along that you might like to discuss, and use the comments section on this events page or email to let me know what grammar, vocabulary or any other questions you might have and would like to have addressed.

A reminder: we are not a substitute for proper, formal instruction in German. We expect all attendees to attend or to have attended such instruction at a qualified educational institution like the Goethe Institute (http://www.goethe.de/toronto), the University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies (http://learn.utoronto.ca/), or the German Saturday Schools of Toronto (http://torontogermanschools.ca/). Please contact us if you would like more information on these options.

Location, directions and transport options

The pub is located just north of the University of Toronto campus in the Annex neighbourhood, conveniently close to public transit and parking.

Walking and public transit directions From the intersection of Bloor Street West and Spadina Road, also the location of the TTC Spadina subway station, walk one block east along the north side of Bloor Street West to Madison Avenue, then turn left (north) and walk 100 m / 300 ft past the small parkette to the Madison pub on the left (west) side.

Parking is available on-street on Madison Avenue, and in two small Toronto Parking Authority Green P parking lots: Carpark 238 at 9 Madison Avenue just north of Bloor Street West, and Carpark 231 on the east side of Spadina Road just north of Spadina subway station. All three parking choices must be paid for using an automated machine. Caution: Madison Avenue is one-way south-bound for automobiles from Lowther Avenue to Bloor Street West. From Carpark 231, take this shortcut to the pub: pass through the gate on the east side of the lot, follow the alleyway east to Madison Avenue, then turn right (south) a few steps to the pub.

Cycling There is a Toronto Bixi bicycle location at the corner of Bloor Street West and Madison Avenue.
