What we’re about

Are you looking to practice your job interview skills but not know where to find more frequent help than once in a blue moon? You'll be pleased to know about GTHA (Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area) Job Interview Skills Practice (GTHAJISP).

Another perk is that signing up for events is optional. I have no problem helping you outside of organized events as well, and whether such help comes via official events or outside of them, it is FREE! How about that?

The above said, anyone who DOES choose to sign up for an event must understand that this group, like the sports one that I run, has a no-show policy because to too many events in the past, members of various Meetup groups who have signed up for such events have NOT honoured them in large enough #s. I over a dozen times before founding the above group sent a video of an audio recording that I once sent to a then-member of a Slavic languages Meetup group to double down to him on the importance that I'd placed on having put in place a no-show policy. I wanted him to understand, in no uncertain terms, that although it had given me no pleasure to put in place in that group (which I'd founded in the spring in 2018 but that no longer exists because I'd shut it down awhile ago) a no-show policy, it'd been because EVEN UP TO AND INCLUDING THAT POINT, far too many members of various Meetup groups that I'd founded or had otherwise gotten to run had, to too many events I'd hosted, no-showed to events to which they'd signed up.

Please note that anyone who, until further notice, has:

  • no prior no-show, will have to sit out events to the end of the 10th month following such a no-show
  • a prior no-show, will have to sit out events to the end of the 20th month following such a no-show
  • 2 prior no-shows will have to leave the group and will NOT be eligible to join another among those that I founded

Between this group and a sports group I run, the mandatory minimum suspension period is a matter of DECADES for the latter group because to too many events in 2021, June 2022 and August 2022 (but particularly June 2021), too many members of the latter group no-showed to too many events. Anyone already a member of the sports group by the time of joining GTHAJISP will be subject to the lengthy mandatory minimum suspension period of the sports group.

Please note that among 6 attempts to put on job interview skills events in 2023 before 2 p.m. Eastern Time (6 p.m. GMT) on 7 May 2023, 3 (in early-February, early-March and early-May) featured enough no-shows that I didn't get an opportunity to practice such skills. It's one thing to know in advance (e.g. to an event I'd hoped to put on from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET [3-5 p.m. GMT] on 3 April, a Monday) that my sign-up is the only one, and that I should thus cancel the event in question. It's quite another, however, to only find out, even as late as 30 minutes or so after an event has started, that nobody who chose to maintain a sign-up to joining me is likely to join me (with said scenario having occurred on the a.m. 9 December ET). Due to too many no-shows to the May 2024 event ( https://www.meetup.com/gtha-job-interview-skills-practice-6/events/299695325/ ), I increased, for events after that, the mandatory minimum suspension period to the end of the 30th month following a no-show ( https://twitter.com/davidmeetupto/status/1789333358494744950 ) although anyone with a prior no-show will have to sit out 30 months beyond that.

Looking forward to seeing you at an upcoming event if you can come.
