Arouca’s mountain landscapes hold a remarkable wartime story. During World War II, rival German and British interests operated tungsten mines in this region.
We’ll start in Rio de Frades, exploring the old mines and visiting the waterfall amid the green river valley. Then we’ll continue to Regoufe, before spending the whole afternoon in Arouca at the Chestnut Festival. There’ll be free time to explore the town, enjoy the festival and discover the local flavours.
