About us
If you love books that spark conversation, linger in your thoughts, or transport you into lives and worlds beyond your own, Wander in Words is a welcoming book club for readers in and around Guildford.
We read a broad mix of contemporary and literary fiction, translated fiction, mysteries, historical fiction and thought-provoking new releases — the kind of books that give us something to discuss long after the final page. Recent reads have included A Bird in Winter by Louise Doughty, Names by Florence Knapp, Murder at the Black Cat Café by Seishi Yokomizo, The Café with No Name by Robert Seethaler and The Eights by Joanna Miller.
This is a new book club, relaxed and friendly for people who genuinely enjoy reading and conversation. You don’t need to be an expert in literature or have a perfect memory for plot details — just an interest in books and hearing different perspectives. Some members may love character-driven fiction, others atmosphere, ideas, beautiful writing or a compelling story. All viewpoints are welcome.
We’re open to exploring different genres and authors, although we tend to lean more toward contemporary, literary, historical and character-driven fiction than heavily sci-fi or fantasy-focused books.
Expect thoughtful discussion, good company, and the occasional debate over whether the book was brilliant, baffling or both.
Whether you’re new to book clubs or a lifelong reader looking to meet like-minded people locally, you’ll be very welcome at Wander in Words.
