About us

Guitar Theory offers free guitar lessons for absolute beginners at local public libraries. I’ve developed a beginner-friendly approach using an alternate tuning that makes chord shapes simpler and allows new players to begin making music without immediately confronting some of the guitar’s most difficult finger positions. We can also learn in standard tuning if that’s what you prefer.

You don’t need any musical education or experience to participate—this is specifically for people starting from the beginning. We’ll explore basic chords, rhythm, strumming, melody, song structure, and the musical ideas behind what we’re playing.

Bring a guitar if you have one, along with curiosity and a willingness to practice.
I’m a self-taught guitarist, not a conservatory-trained instructor, so I’m not offering advanced or concert-level training. What I can offer is a simple and approachable way to begin playing, ask questions, experiment, and enjoy making music.
