We're having another meetup, this one right before the Bay Area Maker Faire weekend. That means we'll have a mix of familiar and new faces at the event. We have some familiar and impressive speakers, as always.
This month we're pleased to welcome Jonathan Foote (http://www.rotormind.com). He is a recovering scientist, tinkerer, and creative technologist with decades of hands-on experience. His past tenures include teaching, learning and working at places such as Brown University, Cambridge University, the Institute of Systems Science (now A*STAR) and FX Palo Alto Laboratory, Inc. He now works on kinetic and light works, which explore perception and interaction using a range of sophisticated electronics, from vintage vacuum tubes to the latest semiconductors and actuators. Jon's "Sensorpalooza" talk will cover the range of sensors he is trying out and using in his work today and into the future.
We're also pleased to welcome Avidan Ross. He is founding partner of Root Ventures (http://root.vc), an early stage VC firm that works with hardware companies. Before Root, he designed industrial robotics, industrial internet devices and other embedded applications. You can find him hacking coffee machines in the kitchen, or creating unbelievably hot pizza ovens for fun in the back yard (http://hackaday.com/2016/12/05/insanely-hot-oven-makes-pizza-in-45-seconds-avidan-ross-on-food-hacking/). Avidan will be giving a talk, "Ramping Quickly: the role of VC at hardware companies". He will also cover the importance of sourcing and working with CMs while ramping product manufacturing.
As always, we welcome attendees to give 2 minute talks about their projects and companies (please see the organizers to get set up when you arrive).
We will have our usual spread of food and beverages. You should plan to bring the discussion about hardware (or whatever else you're passionate about).
