We will meet to begin our walk to and through Fort Monroe in front of Sly Clyde Ciderworks at 207 E. Mellon Street Hampton, VA 23663 which is in the Phoebus area of the city. There is usually plenty of free parking on Mellon and the streets that intersect it. We'll cover 5-6 miles on our two hour walk that will be mostly on pavement and mostly without benefit of tree cover.

For at least 400 years, the point of land known as Old Point Comfort that now includes Fort Monroe has served as the key defensive site at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay.

If you are a history buff, after the walk you may want to visit the Casemate Museum (https://fortmonroe.org/things-to-do/casemate-museum/ ) and the Fort Monroe Visitor Center Museum (https://fortmonroe.org/place_to_visit/visitor-education-center/).
