Getting in some miles before 1:00 Browns game.
Also, Back Bay trails close 11/1 for migratory reasons until spring.

4.5 to False Cape visitor center & another .5 to secluded beach for snack break. Last part is hiking through the sand dunes, but that vast deserted ocean view is worth it. It’s pretty impressive. Doubling back should have us around 10 miles.

Majority of this hike you are exposed to the elements in the wide open wetlands. What you carry in, you carry out. No trash cans & no trace left behind. No dogs allowed. Cell phone service is spotty too while hiking throughout.

The False Cape visitor center does sell some stuff, has a water refill station & restrooms. Not sure food wise, besides ice cream 👍, so I’d say be prepared to bring what you need. The beach usually has a decent breeze. Pack accordingly.

Back Bay visitor center(starting point) has restrooms.

If you want to after beach snack, feel free to hike the 3.5 miles back up along the beach to the cars. That is an option. We’re all adults, so that’s on you. It’s a beautiful walk.

$5/car to park at Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge starting point at the end of Sandbridge. Can’t use REI receipt since we’re not parking in a state park. Can only hike, bike or boat into False Cape SP.

I’m thinking roughly a 4-4.5 hour excursion in total if keeping with 20 min/mile pace & break on the beach. Obviously, no one gets left behind, but be respectful & not be casually strolling making everyone wait.

Weather is always a factor. I’ll be on the lookout & make the decision late the night prior. I can handle some rain while I’m out, but not trying to get down poured on.

The lure of False Cape is that these 2 dike roads & the miles of beach are the only way in on foot. Atlantic ocean to one side & Back Bay on the other. It’s pretty remarkable & I’ve seen beavers, turtles, snakes & various birds on this mostly flat dirt hike, besides the dunes.
