About us

Welcome to Hands in Motion, a casual community for people who are curious about sign language and want to learn together. Whether you're completely new to signing, have a deaf friend or family member you'd like to communicate with, or you're just interested in exploring a new language, this is the place for you. We're not here to turn everyone into fluent signers overnightβ€”we're just a group of people at various levels coming together to learn, practice, and have fun with American Sign Language.

We meet regularly to go through basic vocabulary, learn about deaf culture, and get comfortable with signing in a low-pressure environment. Our meetings are relaxed and inclusive, and we encourage questions and mistakes because that's how learning actually happens. You'll meet other beginners who are on the same journey, and if we're lucky, we might have deaf or hard of hearing members join us too, which is always valuable for authentic learning.

This group is really about building a supportive community around sign language. Come as you are, bring your curiosity, and don't worry about being perfect. We're all just learning together.
