Free Car Camp 1 or 2 nights near Mt Pinos!

ESCAPE FROM THE BLISTERING LA HEAT! THIS IS THE TRUTH!
At 8,300 ft elevation Chula Vista is a FREE campground hidden in a dense pine forest with plenty of shade and cool temperatures.
It has picnic tables, fire pits, and pit toilets.
THERE’S NO WATER SO BRING YOUR OWN SUPPLY.

Chula Vista Campground is located 135 yards, or a 3 minute walk on a gated fire road, from the parking lot.
Many folks use yard carts or hand trucks to haul their camping equipment and coolers to the their campsites.

!! PLEASE CARRY OUT YOUR TRASH, DO NOT LEAVE TRASH FOR THE LAST PERSON TO CARRY OUT, THERE’S NO TRASH SERVICE, BRING YOUR OWN TRASH BAGS !!

Arrive anytime, take off anytime
Campsites are first come, first served, but there are plenty of open spaces, even between campsites, for everyone.

Day hike, optional
There will be an organized Meetup day hike on Saturday at 1 PM to the summit of Mt Pinos (2 mi), and for those who want to continue, on to Sawmill Mt (4mi).
Gather at the parking lot in front of the Nordic Base structure.

Perseid Meteor Shower best viewed from the open parking lot after midnight, Friday & Saturday nights.
There will be amateur astronomers in the parking lot all night long, so use a RED headlamp, don’t blind them with flashlights and white headlamps, and that even includes your vehicle interior lights. Don’t even dare turning on your car headlights.
You will get yelled at. How do I know? I used to be one of those amateur astronomers for many years.
Use red headlamps only!

From downtown LA it usually takes just over an hour and a half to reach the Mt Pinos parking lot, plus the 3 minute walk to the campground. :))
