Fun Weekend & coastal hiking around UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Durdle Door & Lulworth Cove , Tyneham (ghost village) & Monkey World in Jurassic Coast , Dorset.
Due to the train strikes on Friday , We don't meet together in London train station as usual. instead , You will pre book your individual national express coach ticket to Bournemouth from London Victoria Bus station. Ideally , the return journey on Sunday will be by train to London Waterloo from wool station. We still have 2 ladies spots open for this trip as 2 ladies have booked twin share hotel rooms in Bournemouth.
Durdle Door is probably the most famous stone arch anywhere in the world. It was created when the sea pierced through the Portland limestone around 10,000 years ago. Formed by the combined forces of the sea and a river swollen by melting ice at the end of the last Ice Age. Lulworth Cove is world famous for its unique geology and landforms including the Lulworth Crumple and Stair Hole.
Walk - Saturdayβ Lulworth Cove to Tyneham via Durdle door - 18.7km
Hike Start Location - Lulworth Cove
Difficulty - Moderate or Challenging
Total Ascent - 986 m
Total Descent - 991 m
This is a beautiful and challenging coastal walk along Purbeck's Jurassic Coast. It takes you into the iconic Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door (an arch) & dramatic white cliff coastal scenery.
The abandoned and ruined coastal village of Tyneham was evacuated at very short notice in December 1943 at the behest of the War Office to prepare troops for D-Day. The inhabitants were never allowed to return. The village is now a picturesque ruin.
Sunday Visit to Monkey World ( Chimpanzee DNA is 98.8% similar to us!! )
Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre near Wool and Wareham is without a doubt one of the finest wildlife orientated visitor attractions in the UK. Set up originally to rescue chimpanzees from ill treatment in europe this attraction has grown to house a vast variety of primates and monkeys and itβs conservation efforts are world renown.
