Current topic: Families: How relevant are they in the modern world?

Families have been the basis of civilization since the beginning.

They can provide stability, moral guidance, emotional support, monetary support, extra physical support during times of need, legal protections.

On the other hand, families can also be abusive, controlling, limiting of one’s lifestyle choices, and impose burdens.

Family size has been declining over the past few decades and adults often move away from their parents unlike in past eras. More and more people choose to form substitutes to replace the traditional biological family.

Where is the optimal point for children? For adults? For the species? For the environment?

Is the traditional family nearing extinction? If so, is this a positive step towards individual freedom, or a cause for alarm?

What is being lost? Is anything being gained?

This group is for like-minded people who enjoy discussing the big and the hard questions. We will always be seeking the truth. Our topics will include truth, philosophy, science, morality, and spirituality.

Note: This is not a group for those that already KNOW they have the answers to the hard questions. Rather, this is a group for those that have hard questions, like to ponder possible answers to such questions, and want to see how their answers or philosophies stand up to hard scrutiny.

We have four core rules:

1. Mutual respect always
2. Allow space for all to participate
3. Stay on topic
4. Always seek the truth no matter where that leads us
