Practical Haskell double feature: Gabriel Gonzalez and Moritz Drexl

Details

Two eminently practical talks by Gabriel Gonzalez and Moritz Drexl.

Note that the meetup is starting at 6:00 PM rather than 6:30 PM on this event and going forwards.

---

Gabriel Gonzalez:

I'll be giving a talk on implementing a simple Twitter-like website in a single file that you can deploy to EC2. This talk will cover:

  • Web application basics
  • Haskell-specific database and HTML programming idioms
  • Using Nix to package the entire project in a single file that contains all logic necessary to build and deploy the website

---

Moritz Drexl:

Understanding and Controlling Evaluation in Haskell

Ever found yourself randomly sprinkling bang patterns over your code and
frustratedly forcing values in the hope of fixing a space leak or improving
performance? In this talk, I'm going to explain how to precisely tune the
evaluation and lazyness of your Haskell code. I will first cover the basics
about evaluation, and then we're going to look at many examples and spend a lot
of time in the REPL to validate our ideas.

This talk assumes only basic Haskell knowledge.

The building is right across the street from the Sunnyvale Caltrain station. The Target office is located on the second floor.

We will have someone in the lobby to let you in until about 6:20. After, 6:20, please leave a comment here or text 650-741-8406 and we can send someone to let you in.

Please note that there is free 3hr street and garage available parking near the building. However, you can NOT park where there are gates and/or ticket machines controlling access to the garages.
