About us
Do you love a good ghost story? Have you enjoyed reading books or watching films/series such as The Haunting of Hill House, The Innocents, Rebecca, The Little Stranger, and The Others?
If so, please join us to discuss literature that delves into the complexity and dark side of the human psyche. We'll read fiction with dark psychological themes, including literary and psychological horror, existential horror, folk horror (horror based on folklore), classic and contemporary ghost stories, Gothic (& Southern Gothic) fiction, literary mysteries, and literary true crime (e.g., In Cold Blood). We may occasionally read nonfiction true crime if it’s considered literary (e.g., Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil).
We'll read authors such as Sarah Waters, Edgar Allan Poe, Shirley Jackson, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Henry James, Joyce Carol Oates, Agatha Christie, Dorothy L. Sayers, Truman Capote, Silvia Moreno-Garcia, Daphne du Maurier, William Faulkner, Anne Rice, and Sarah Hall. We may also have film discussions on occasion.
To kick off the group, the first book was picked by the Organizer. Subsequent books will be selected by poll. Meetings will be held online via Zoom. We may occasionally meet in a local DC cemetery.
