Choose a 5 KM or 10 KM City Walk in Greenville SC
Details
There is a large parking garage just behind the Westin Hotel, 120 South Main St., Greenville.
There is also a free parking lot on the roof of the building at the corner of W North St. and Richardson St. Walk from the south side of the parking lot to Main St. Turn right on Main and go 3 blocks to Joel's Java Coffee Shop (next to the Westin Hotel).
We'll gather and register at Joel's Java Coffee Shop at 12:30 p.m. It is National Butterscotch Brownie Day. Perhaps Joel's will have some for purchase. You'll surely want to try one of their treats at any rate.
We are doing this walk with the Asheville Amblers, AARP, Stryder, and perhaps others. The walk is free, although the Amblers do accept donations ($4 suggested donation). Step-off is at 1:00.
Choose between a 5 KM guided walk and a 10 KM guided walk. Both walks have some moderate hills and stair climbing and are mostly on pavement.
Both walks include a beautiful stroll through Falls Park with spectacular falls and along the Reedy River. You will take in part of the Swamp Rabbit Trail. The walk also takes you down both sides of Main Street, where you'll try to find the little brass mice hidden there. The 10 KM walk also includes a fine neighborhood, a large park with shaded and open trails, the zoo, and more of the Swamp Rabbit Trail.
Dress for the weather; consider a hat and sunscreen. Tennis shoes will be fine. Walking sticks are not needed by most. Bring a protein snack and plenty of water. Take care of restroom needs before the walk; the 10 KM walk passes restrooms at the zoo. Strollers and wheelchairs are not recommended.
Greenville is a wonderful, family-friendly city. Many will want to come early for lunch at one of the many wonderful restaurants along Main Street. Some may want to explore more after the walk and perhaps stay for supper. Plan to enjoy your visit.
