Meetup @ SU

Details

We are having a meetup at the SU offices in SF. Come on by for pizza and beers. This is a perfect opportunity for people evaluating HBase to meet other users, new HBase users to learn more from others, and existing users to stay up to date on the latest open source developments. We have a few presentations lined up already:

  1. Moving HBase RPC to protobufs

Jimmy Xiang & Gregory Chanan, Cloudera

  1. Comparing the native HBase client and asynchbase (https://github.com/stumbleupon/asynchbase)

Benoît Sigoure, StumbleUpon

  1. Using Apache Hive with HBase: Recent improvements

Using Hive with HBase was made possible by contributions from Facebook around 2010. In this talk, we will go over the details of how the integration works, and talk about recent improvements. Specifically, we will cover the basic architecture, schema and data type mappings, and recent filter pushdown optimizations. We will also go into detail about the security aspects of Hadoop/HBase related to Hive setups.

Enis Soztutar, Hortonworks

We have a few other tentative presentations lined up already but could add 1 or 2 more if there's something you'd like to share. If you would like to present, ping Stack or Nicolas.

The Meetup starts at 6PM.
