What we’re about
Purpose?
To share and learn applied business data science techniques from other members while building a personal data science project portfolio. The group's focus is on LEARNING BY DOING through examples and case studies presented by the group's members. This group is NOT for people who only want to passively listen to lectures or presentations about data science, this group IS for people who are ready and able to dive in and start building ML solutions in Python, R, SQL or even Excel (it's possible!).
By joining this group, you will:
- Learn about various applied business data science problems from other data analysts and how they solved them
- Learn which tools, techniques, reference material, education resources, etc. other group members have found to be the most useful in their careers.
- Have the group support you need to build out your data science project portfolio and showcase your skills for future data science job opportunities.
Who should join?
Data analysts, data scientists and data engineers with a passion for continually learning and applying the latest ML techniques to solve challenging business problems. To get the most out of the group, you should have prior work experience in the analytics field so that you understand what it takes to build and deploy a real-life data science project (if you're expecting this to be like a school project where you're given a perfectly clean CSV dataset, with a single clear business objective and told which models to use and how to tune them then you're going to be disappointed.)
What will we do at our events?
- Have fun while learning how other data professionals actually apply data science to business problems.
- Network with like-minded people working in analytics in HCM.
- Each meetup will have a particular topic related to one of the stages of the data science project lifecycle. Designated group members will present their analyses as a case study along with lessons learned; other group members will then share their related insights or relevant experience they have with this type of analysis.
