Our Event: One of the most difficult aspects of starting or running a business in healthcare is getting your model right. Even once established, regulatory and market forces drive model shifts that few other industries face with such regularity. People say our industry is slow to change - and often in ways that are not adaptive. Most of our creativity and energy are poured into reacting to the changing landscape we operate in. In this event we will explore a few of the best new ideas and models in the space and work out some of the challenges in a fun, interactive session led by Michelle Zimmerman, Chief Innovation Officer at Alphacare (http://alphacare.com/) and formerly at Aetna. To apply to present your new model and talk about it, please click here (https://medstartrmentors.wufoo.com/forms/apply-to-speak-at-the-h2nyc-business-models-event/).

You may recall Michelle from our Surviving and Thriving under the ACA (http://www.meetup.com/health20nyc/events/148199872/) Panel earlier this year.

Michelle will present on current healthcare business models and the challenges facing start-ups looking to navigate healthcare's evolving stakeholder landscape. Among items to be discussed: a walk through the ecosystem (payers, providers, consumers, etc.), how each was motivated prior to the ACA, how they are motivated post ACA (e.g., value-based reimbursement, high deductible plans), and the opportunities for entrepreneurs to meet these stakeholders' needs. This will be accompanied by practical advice on how to think about defining, scaling, and promoting your business.

Selected healthcare entrepreneurs - including Epion (http://epionhealth.com/), CityMD (http://www.citymd.com/), Truveris (https://www.truveris.com), and SarahCare (http://sarahcare.com/) - will next present new ideas on navigating this ecosystem's complexities. The goal is not only to learn about the new models, but to help conceptualize and refine next iterations that will make them even more successful, with advice from both Michelle and the expert H2NYC crowd. We hope that the session will help entrepreneurs define or refine their business models through productive dialogue or help folks just looking to understand the evolving landscape of healthcare stakeholders.
