Her Adventure hike--University of Texas at Austin
Details
This group hike is open and welcoming to newcomers.
About the hike:
Join us for a 3 mile walk around the University of Texas at Austin campus. We'll stop at all the major photo ops including the Turtle Pond, the Littlefield Fountain, the Blanton Museum's new outdoor sculptures and the Ellsworth Kelly "Austin" installation, the stadium, and of course the UT Tower (with direct awesome views of the Texas State Capitol). And we'll view some underrated gems too. This isn't an official tour, but I've worked at UT for over a decade and am excited share the beauty of the campus with you.
Meeting Location:
We'll meet in front of the Student Services Building (SSB on the UT Campus maps), 100 W Dean Keeton St. The set of doors in the middle of the building facing Dean Keeton St is where we'll meet. This is the north side of campus, so we'll make a big loop around and through campus and come back to our starting place. The pin on MeetUp incorrectly indicates this address is the SEAY building, which is right next door to where we're meeting at the Student Services Building.
Parking:
Lots of options on weekends near the building. Street parking (typically $1/hr on weekends) along Dean Keeton, University Ave, and 27th St. You can park in the 27th St. parking garage (with entrance on 27th St). It's pricier than street parking; rates are listed here.
Optional post-hike social time:
We typically plan an optional social activity (usually involving food!) after the hike. Join us at Vic and Al's afterwards for some delicious Cajun-inspired food.
About Her Adventure:
We are Bobbie and Katy--two friends who have enjoyed spending time hiking and backpacking. We noticed that when we are in the backcountry, we don't see a whole lot of other women--probably due to a lot of factors (historical lack of representation, marketing, fear drilled into us by friends/family that the woods aren't safe, bro culture, etc). So we started Her Adventure with the goal of helping folks see themselves as hikers, adventurers, and strong ass humans who can haul their bodies up and over mountains. We're here to help cultivate the journey and sense of community.
Questions?
Direct message Katy or Bobbie on MeetUp with questions/concerns.
