What we're about

Welcome!... I have been going to 'Here and Now' groups for 20 years and continue to be enthusiastic about how the situation provides me with the opportunity to be surprised, to get to know myself, to relate instead of switching off, and to connect with myself and others in unexpected ways. I hope you'll join me in a group meeting soon. Below are some more details about what's on offer here.

Richard Mills

This group provides a space for people to come together and relate authentically with each other in the 'Here and Now'.

The invitation is to:

• Stay in the here and now, to stay present, and notice your thoughts and feelings.Try to avoid talking about ‘there and then’.

• Say anything you like

• This is an exploratory group with no fixed agenda: allow space for the unexpected.

• Experience a group of equals where there is no leader to show you what to do. (The group will be peer-led, and once the group meeting has started I (Richard Mills, your host and group organiser) am an equal participant.)

Group meetings have a beginning and an end time, plus time for a break, but other than that have no structure, so as to allow an open space for the participants to use as they wish: there is no set task or division of roles.

The experience will be both interpersonal and intra-personal. This means that there is an element of relating to others in the group, so it's inter-active, but it also provides an opportunity for internal reflection, about how you are, in the moment.

The invitation is to avoid saying "What do you do?", "Where do you live?" etc. and instead to explore "What's really going on for me/you, right now?"

At times there may be silence in the group broken only when someone feels moved to speak.

This group is for those wishing to be part of a supportive environment whilst making authentic connections with others.

This group is not a therapy group, and you are responsible for your own wellbeing. The group is not suitable for people who are very emotionally fragile or disturbed, nor for anyone whose life is in chaos. Having said that, it should be fine for you as long as you welcome the opportunity to reflect on how you are in the present moment, and can tolerate the fact that we won't know what will be said. Whilst it may help you if you have had some experience of group-work, this is not essential. Please read the warning at the bottom of this page.

The Benefits

I can’t talk about the benefits that you will get, as we are all unique. But I can tell you about the benefits for me:

• Authenticity
• Aliveness
• Getting in touch with myself…feeling ‘connected up’
• Getting in touch with others…connections
• ‘Uncertainty training’
• The ability to wait
• Getting feedback from others
• Self-knowledge

For more detail about that, see the page called 'The Benefits of Here and Now Groups' in the section marked 'Pages' - the link is towards the top of this page.

The Guest House (by Rumi)

This being human is a guest-house

Every morning a new arrival

A joy, a depression, a mean-ness, some momentary awareness

Comes as an unexpected visitor

Welcome and entertain them all! Even if they're a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture

Still treat each guest honourably. He may be clearing you out for some new delight.

That dark thought, the shame, the malice, meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.

Further opportunities for Here and Now groups

I first found out about these groups in the CCI co-counselling network where I go to 3 or 4 residential events each year, and I go to one or two Here and Now groups each time. To find out more visit http://www.co-counselling.co.uk

Online event

'Amazing experience that I don't get anywhere else.' - Deborah, 20 June 2016** You are invited to attend this online Here-and-Now Group for a unique experience in encounter with other individuals. The invitation is to: +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ stay as much as possible in the 'here and now', +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ...in order to maximize the opportunity for authentic meeting with others and with yourself. Your host +++ +++ Richard Mills, BA, PGDIM, BSc, LGSMD BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist I've been going to Here-and-Now groups since 1992 and I love them! I've learned so much about myself: what holds me back and what gives me joy. Since the Lockdown in the UK on 23rd March 2020 I have been running one or two one-off group meetings online (via Zoom) per week. They have all been well worth the effort and I am heartened by the value that I and others get from them. REGISTRATION +++ +++ RSVP on this advert. PRICE: £0.00 The Zoom Link +++ +++ Here's the link for the meeting: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82630529735?pwd=NmtaQ0JsUEVLUHM1L3VRNGVVQTBTUT09 Meeting ID:[masked] Password: Richard FACEBOOK GROUP +++ +++ Have a look here and see if you would like to join: https://www.facebook.com/groups/238959786946405 What this group is about +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ All you have to do is bring your own real, flawed and beautiful self, and come with curiosity about what we might co-create. Start at 7.30pm Arrival from: 7.15pm Session time 7.30pm - 9.30pm *** *** NB No comfort break *** *** This group space +++ +++ This group space offers the prospect of interpersonal meeting and process: encounter with others invariably invokes all kinds of feelings inside the self, and this space offers the chance to experience and reflect on these. The group is not structured, except for the start and end times: the unfolding of the group will be unpredictable and will offer the opportunity for unexpected dialogue and experience. The picture is my therapy room where my monthly, live, H+N group happens in Leeds. During the group +++ +++ The invitation is to stay in the here-and-now, to stay present. Here’s my advice: in each moment, notice your current • Wishes • Needs • Feelings Share these with the group, if you like. Try to avoid doing the following: • When you are NOT charged, describing aspects of your personality, or things in your 'there and then' (e.g. job, relationships). • At the end of each meeting there is no debrief, or checkout, so it's up to you to say anything you want within the meeting time. My Role as co-participant +++ +++ I will pay attention to my endeavour to stay present and in contact with myself and others. My experience in this type of leader-less peer group is that the interactions between people inevitably facilitate the process. Requests from me +++ +++ 1. Confidentiality: After the group, please don’t talk about what other people said or did in such a way that they can be identified. 2. Drugs: Please do not arrive whilst under the influence of alcohol or non-prescription drugs. 3. Arrival: Please stay silent after arriving until the group start time. This is to help the process of staying in the here and now. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Richard Mills, BA, PGDIM, BSc, LGSMD BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist[masked] [masked] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - More testimonials +++ +++ **(NB These testimonials are for the live in-person group that I run each month in Leeds.) • 'It was extraordinary.
