Interested in collaborating for a safer, fairer world? Feel welcome to join Amnesty for an evening about homelessness in Taiwan. Stand up for human rights, expand your knowledge and meet new people.
Taiwan, or rather Taipei, has a problem with homelessness. Anyone who has been to main station and other areas has seen the people who have no bed, no home, no roof over their heads and have to spend the night on the street - in the rain, cold or heat. Yet Taiwan is a very wealthy nation and has a functioning social system: so how can it be that people are homeless ? Who is affected by homelessness and why? What is being done to help them? What about the stigma on homelessness?
We invited Luke Piggott to tell us about homelessness in Taiwan, the problems people face and the current situation in Taipei. Luke is the project manager of SALT Collectiv and looks after the SALT kitchen and homeless programs. SALT is looking to expand and increase the frequency of these programs. Luke will shed light on the background to the homelessness phenomenon, introduce us to their work, answer questions and share ways to get involved.
This evening Luke will present. But at the Amnesty team we welcome everyone to ask questions and share perspectives, so the evening will offer interactivity and space for everyone. After the event there will be the possibility to stick around, meet other people there and to chat further.
Entrance is free! A purchase from the bar is appreciated (juice, green tea and coffee - free refills!)
(This event is hosted by the Amnesty International English Speaking Group in Taipei, in collaboration with Hey Taipei. More about Amnesty and this event you can find here: https://www.facebook.com/amnestytaiwan/ )
