Welcome to Greater Toronto History Walks!

Thornhill was founded in 1794 just one year after the development of York to the south, and just three years after the founding of Upper Canada itself.
With the arrival of Benjamin Thorne in 1820, Thorne opened and operated a gristmill and sawmill in town, it was now known as Thorne's Mills, and later as the modern version, Thorne's Hill!

Thornhill was directly related to the development of Yonge Street, between Centre and John Streets, and a busy village developed especially with regard to transportation.

Thornhill was a major transportation route between Toronto and the northern part of the colony. Stagecoaches travelled between Holland Landing and Lake Simcoe and York, and to other parts of the province.

Thornhill is a fascinating city with a walkable fascinating history. Hope to see you there!

The price of this tour is $15.00 per person which includes tip!

This extensive walking tour begins at the Thornhill Village Public Library Branch at 10 Colborne Street.
