BUCKEYE TRAIL WINTER HIKE & POTLUCK FEAST

No pets. One guest.Join the Dayton Hikers group for a winter hike on the Buckeye Trail and a potluck feast at Caesar Creek State Park. The location for this event is the Learning Center at the Army Corps of Engineers Visitor Center at Caesar Creek. Be part of the oldest winter hike on the Buckeye Trail in southwest Ohio.
BUCKEYE TRAIL WINTER HIKES:
There will be several hikes to choose from ranging from 3 miles to 12 miles in length. Pick the hike that is best for you! Enjoy the beautiful winter scenery of Caesar Creek State Park and the Buckeye Trail. All hikes will use a portion of the Buckeye Trail for their route. The hikes have varying start times and will end in time for the potluck feast.

POTLUCK FEAST
* Bring a dish to share.
* Bring a water bottle. Water is available at fountains and faucets.We will enjoy a hearty meal after a day of winter hiking. Bring a pot of chili, a crock pot dish, a side dish, a dessert, or a food item to share with the group. Please remember to bring your serving utensils. Electric outlets, oven and refrigerator are available. The feast will be served 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm, whenever the hikes end.
Dayton Hikers will provide plates, bowls, napkins, utensils, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate.
This event is free of charge courtesy of the Donating Members of Dayton Hikers. Donations are welcome. You can also help support this event by purchasing a Dayton Hiker shirt onsite. Or become a Donating Member of Dayton Hikers, it only takes a donation of $10 or more.

Tear down: Volunteers are needed for tear down and clean up. We must do everything ourselves. By 4:00 pm we must be cleaned up, have the lights off, and vacated.

LEARNING CENTER AT CAESAR CREEK:
The perfect place for our winter hike and potluck feast! It is located right on the blue blazes of the Buckeye Trail! The Conference Room is a beautiful and well-equipped place. The room has ample space for over 100 people, plenty of tables, and chairs, a modern kitchen, restrooms, and lots of parking. The Visitor Center is attached and features interpretive displays, ongoing short movies, and a gift shop with trail maps.

Description: Take an 800-mile journey from the Mexico border to the Utah state line on the Arizona Trail (AZT) across the entire length of Arizona through deserts, mountains, forests, canyons, wilderness, and history. The AZT winds through the Sonoran Desert, the Superstition Mountains, and the Mazatzal Wilderness on its way to the Mogollon Rim and majestic San Francisco Peaks, through the Grand Canyon, and onto the North Rim conifer forests of the Kaibab Plateau. Learn how Andy endured sun, heat, rain, wind, snow, sketchy water sources, and trail closures on our nation's newest national scenic trail to complete this epic thru-hike in the spring of 2023.
Bio: Andy "Captain Blue" Niekamp has over 20,000 miles of backpacking experience including five end-to-end hikes on the 2,193 mile Appalachian Trail, a continuous footpath from Georgia to Maine that travels throughout 14 different states. He has also hiked the Buckeye Trail, Florida Trail, Arizona Trail, Colorado Trail, John Muir Trail, Sheltowee Trace, Long Trail, Ozark Highlands Trail, Superior Hiking Trail, Ohio To Erie Trail, and many other trails including the Camino de Santiago in Spain.
