9am~ Sunday 9/13 : 🌤️hike.🎧Nia.🥾hike @ BROUGHTON BEACH, Portland, OR
M James Gleason Memorial Boat Ramp, Portland, OR 97211, Portland, Or, USSunday, September 13th
9 am - 11:30 am
Broughton Beach, Portland, OR
$5 parking feeJust to the east of the Sextant Bar and Galley... Pull off the main road @
4141 NE Marine Drive, once in large parking area, head right, continuing beyond the boat parking area. You will see a car lot & a $ 5 parking fee kiosk. Let's meet at my white Subaru Outback, plates ***PFT.- Just north of Portland International Airport, a gentle slope of yellow sand meets the shores of the Columbia River.
- Officially named “Broughton Beach” after British Lieutenant William R. Broughton (the first European to sail up the Columbia River), this sandy beach is surrounded by big sky views.
- If it is a sunny day we will have a view of Mount Hood and will definitely experience close-up underbelly views of descending planes as they land at the airport.
- It can be windy by the water, more windy than outside your own house, so wear your layers and windproof gear.
- We will meander along the beach and make our way up to a sandy path. We will have that walking-in-sand experience which is it's own type of challenge that works different muscles than our city streets.
- We make our way up to a multi-use path where the river parallels on one side of us and the exciting coming and going of airplanes are visible to us on our other side.
- With minimal and little elevation, this hike is considered easy.
- We will dance our Nia Somatic Movement in a spacious flat-top sand dune overlooking the Columbia River before looping back to our start.
- Nia Somatic Movement is gentle, inclusive, healing, move-at-your-own-pace & in YOUR body's way. It is about what it FEELS like, not so much what it looks like, y'all. No experience is necessary.
- We use headphones (provided), handsfree mic, radio transmitter & iPod technology!
- Please wear clothing you like to move in and hooded rain gear (when needed) to protect our headphones.
- Be sure to have a healthy breakfast that includes protein & pack a snack perhaps.
- Bring your full water bottle.
- If your intention to attend changes, pretty please change your RSVP status on MeetUp to "Not Going" as soon as your plans change. I have limited sets of headphones and would love to avoid "no-shows" from excluding others who wish to join. THX.
- Please avoid asking others on a date during this event. My intention is to foster safe space to meet new people, hike, dance and FEEL the music. Please respect your fellow attendees. I remove members who aim to "pick-up". Please let me know if you are ever made uncomfortable by another during an event.
We would LOVE to have you join us …

Oakshire serves personal sized pizzas and seasonal salads, as well as beer, wine and kombucha on tap. Oakshire is kindly fine with outside food brought in, which is nice as there are several other eateries nearby to choose from.
Our jug band music features homemade instruments including percussion on washboard, washtub bass and a jug for more bass.
We also have guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo and harmonica. All 4 band members sing and we have lots of harmonies to share.Come on out and enjoy the music. We would love to share it with you.
