Let’s Climb Mount Adams - Washington’s Second Tallest Peak!

  • Distance: 12.4 miles round trip
  • Elevation Gain: 6,740 ft
  • Route: South Climb Trailhead → Lunch Counter → Summit
  • Each person needs to get permit a day before the climb: LINK

Day 1 – Approach and Camp

  • 6:00 AM – Meet at the parking lot and carpool to the South Climb Trailhead ($30 to a driver).
  • Hike to Lunch Counter Distance (~4.5 miles, elevation gain: ~3,400 ft
    time: 4–6 hours).
  • Camp overnight at Lunch Counter.

Day 2 – Summit & Return

  • Early start for the summit.
  • Distance: ~ 2 miles one way from Lunch Counter to summit.
    Elevation gain: ~3,300 ft.
  • Return to Lunch Counter, pack up, and hike back to the trailhead.

What to Bring:

  • 10 Essentials
  • Camping gear (warm layers, tent, sleeping bag/pad)
  • Mountaineering boots or solid hiking boots
  • Crampons
  • Ice axe
  • Helmet
  • Trekking poles
  • Sunglasses & sunscreen
  • Stove (for melting snow & cooking)
