Late night North York Centre food crawl (Jane's Walk, 2.6 km)
Details
Once a year, we do a walking tour. No need to RSVP. Just show up on the day of the walk.
North York Centre is one of the few late night food neighbourhoods in Toronto. Yonge Street between Sheppard and Steeles Ave is lined with Korean, Chinese, Japanese, and Persian eateries. Many stay open past 10 pm.
In this walk, we'll look at the urban forces that shaped the food scene here. Why the concentration along Yonge St? Why just East Asian and Persian food? How did we end up with twelve bubble tea stalls in one block? It's a story sixty years in the making.
This walk is just as much about food as it is about urbanism. We'll explore the block of Yonge and Byng where new restaurants sprout up all the time and stop by some food halls. Participants are encouraged to share their own experiences. Which restaurants would you recommend and why?
The walk ends at Finch station. If you're hungry, you can backtrack to the restaurants along the route or continue north for Korean food and a 24h Persian supermarket.
