Enjoy an early season hike in Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge! This is an out and back hike so choose between 2 and 5 miles. Meet at the Tamarac Visitor's Center. Wear sturdy shoes, prepare for ticks, and bring water.
Glendalough State Park is a gem in the spring with the trails bathed in soft green light. The prairie grasses are tall enough to sway in the wind. Forest trees are sprouting fluorescent leaves. The wildflowers are popping up to greet the sunlight.
Six years ago, Glendalough was the site for the hiking club's first event. Now we return each year to start the warm-weather hiking season.
After the hike, join us at the Little Bar and Grill in Battle Lake for great food and more hiking stories.
Join Laurentian Lakes chapter members for a hike in Tamarac going north-east on the NCT. This is an out and back hike so choose between 2 and 5 miles. Meet at the 400th Avenue Trailhead at 9:00 am or if you would like to carpool, meet at 8:30 at the 4 Corners Convenience Store at the intersection of State Highway 34 and Becker County 29. Wear sturdy shoes, prepare for ticks, and bring water.
National Trails Day is your chance to get outdoors, connect with our members, and give back to the North Country Trail. A mile long section of the trail was logged last fall. We will be cleaning up this section north of HWY 113 in Clearwater Country after a chipping machine has gone through. Bring sturdy garden rakes to clear wood chips off the trail. Backpack blowers may also be helpful. Other tools will be provided by the chapter to renovate damage to the treadway. Bring water and snacks as well as wear sturdy boots and gloves. Ticks and mosquito prevention is necessary as well.
