About us
Hike Oxfordshire is part of the Ramblers and is aimed at young walkers in their 20's, 30's, and 40's but anyone is welcome regardless of their age.
https://hikeoxfordshire.org/
You are able to attend 3 walks for free after which you will need to join the Ramblers. Ramblers membership will allow you to continue walking with us or any other Ramblers groups.
Membership is only £45 a year and you can join here:
https://www.ramblers.org.uk/membership
We are a group who enjoy walking and socialising. Almost all of our walks end at the pub and we also organise regular monthly socials in Oxford and surrounding towns - we go for meals and pub trips as well as things like comedy, cycle tours and the theatre.
Please note the following:
There maybe a number of Ramblers members joining the group who are not shown on the Meetup RSVP list.
The group is normally easy to find by looking for a group in walking kit. Please aim to arrive 15 minutes before the start of the walk and if you are having trouble finding the group please contact the walk leader.
The organiser identified on Meetup may be different from the actual walk leader. Please see the description of the walk for their name and contact details.
In terms of what you need to bring:
- A packed lunch (unless the walk description says otherwise)
- Water
- Suitable clothing according to the weather conditions that day
- We advise walking shoes or boots
- Waterproof coats and trousers as you may well get wet and muddy.

Shotover Country Park via Denton & Garsington Circular Walk (9 Miles)
Shotover Country Park, Old Rd, Headington, Oxfordshire, GBCome along for a 9-mile adventure that blends natural beauty, history, and charming villages—all nestled on the edge of Oxford. Designed with both seasoned walkers and newcomers in mind, this route offers a local escape perfect for anyone seeking a refreshing day out.
We start and end the walk at Shotover Country Park—a serene expanse of idyllic woodland spanning 117 hectares along the southern slopes of Shotover Hill. Along the route you’ll be treated to lovely views stretching across South Oxfordshire, giving you the sense of being far from the city, even though it’s just on Oxford’s doorstep.
Our walk starts on a cobbled track, leading us gently downhill toward the quaint village of Littleworth, where time seems to stand still, before heading across rolling fields toward Coombe Wood. From here, a peaceful single-track road takes across to Sunset Lodge, where you’ll enjoy panoramic views across the valley toward the distant Chiltern Hills, with landmarks like the charming windmill near Little Milton visible on the horizon.
Continuing through fields and meadows, our route brings us to the sleepy village of Denton, and from there we head toward Garsington. Here, we’ll take a well-deserved break at The Manor, a quintessential British gastropub, where you can enjoy a drink and relax in good company.
Our return journey takes us through the village of Horspath, winding along gentle paths as we ascend back up Shotover Hill toward our starting point at Shotover Country Park.
This route was carefully selected to offer a varied landscape, with a balance of woodlands, open fields, and gentle hills. While there are a few ups and downs, the walk is manageable for most.
