After work hike- Rock Creek Park-Peirce Mill

Details

Rock Creek is one of the natural gems of the DC metro area. Wooded rolling hills, secluded valleys, the lovely creek. An oasis of peace and tranquility in the middle of DC. Come explore some of its many trails.
Hikers: I like a brisk pace 3 plus miles per hour. Not a good hike for new or out of shape hikers. I pick a route with as many hills as possible.
Distance: 5-6 miles. We’ll loop north from the mill and do a variety of trails.
Duration: About 1.5 - 2 hours.
When: Hike leaves at 6pm sharp. Please arrive a few minutes early.
Where to Meet: We meet at the picnic area parking across Tilden St from the Peirce Mill building. Entry is off Shoemaker St NW. If you google map Shoemaker St NW gets you there.
Google calls it Rock Creek Picnic area #1.
Metro-Several blocks from Van Ness Metro station. Usually can give metro riders a ride back to the station after the hike.
Facilities: There are rest room facilities at the parking area. And bike racks. Plenty of free parking in the lot and on the street.
Scenery: Rolling woodlands, secluded creek valleys. Lots of hills.
Trail surface: dirt, gravel, mud.
Dogs: no
Fees: This is a National Park, but there is NO entrance fee.
To Bring: Water, rain gear, insect repellent.
Park Info: http://www.nps.gov/rocr/index.htm
