Fast Hike at Prince William Forest Park
Details
Prince William Forest Park is one of Washington’s best kept hiking secretes.
The park is scenic rolling woodlands and pleasant shaded creek valleys just south of Potomac Mills.
This is about 10 miles of rolling hills, about 4 hours.
Dress for the weather, bring a picnic lunch, we’ll find a nice lunch spot.
Hikers: Adults only-moderate difficulty. We hike briskly. If you are not in good shape and used to hiking hills, this is not the hike for you. Not steep but we move fast.
Where to Meet: We meet at the Turkey Run Education Center, not the Visitor Center. By the time you drive to the visitor center, pay the entry fee, and drive to Turkey run, it takes about 20 minutes, so plan to arrive at park at 9:00. Hike leaves at 09:30
Facilities: There are rest room facilities at both the visitor center, and Turkey Run, but not during the hike.
To Bring; Plenty of water, (2 liters at least) snacks, lunch, insect repellent.
Fees: There is a $15 per vehicle park entrance fee.
Scenery: Rolling woodlands, secluded creek valleys.
Trail surface: mostly dirt/muddy when wet. Some gravel.
Elevation Gain: Up and down, never more than a hundred feet or so at a time.
